Surface Cleaning on Structural Steel

Did you know that all steel used at ELS, where size permits, is run through our shot blast machine. The pellets remove rust, dirt, scale, and paint to give the material an SA (1-4) finish. The number of the finish is determined by the application and may require the steel to pass through the shot blast machine multiple times. This cleaning process allows the primer and finish coats of paint to adhere to the steel better. For larger materials, we will either wire brush the steel, or if a higher SA value is required, ELS will sandblast the steel prior to paint. The higher SA values are especially important for applications that require epoxy coating of the steel.
